Spend The Day At The Streets At Southpoint In Durham

Planning a day out in Durham? The Streets at Southpoint gives you shopping, dining, and a movie all in one stop, just a short drive from Morehead Manor Bed and Breakfast. Between the outdoor Main Street and the indoor mall, there’s enough here to fill an entire afternoon.

We often send guests here, especially families visiting Duke and couples looking for an easy day away from the inn. It’s one of our favorite things to do in Durham, NC, and Southpoint has a way of turning into a longer visit than planned.

Why Visit The Streets At Southpoint?

We’ve heard The Streets at Southpoint called one of the country’s best spots for a full day out, and it’s easy to see why. It’s one of the largest shopping malls in Durham, NC, with over 100 stores, an IMAX theater, and more than 20 restaurants waiting for you.

Wander the outdoor Main Street, duck into the indoor mall, or bounce between both. You’ll find plenty to keep you busy no matter which way you go.

Most guests tell us they meant to stop for an hour and stayed for the afternoon. Between the shops, the food, and a movie at Southpoint Cinemas, it’s easy to fill a whole day. Reserve your room at Morehead Manor and stay just minutes from it all.

Shop Popular Brands And Local Favorites

Southpoint mixes major retailers with a few local specialty shops, so you can knock out your list in one stop. Big names like Macy’s, Nordstrom, and JCPenney anchor the mall, while boutique stores add some personality to the mix.

A few of our favorite The Streets at Southpoint stores:

  • Anthropologie for home decor and clothing with character
  • Free People for bohemian styles you won’t find everywhere else
  • Pottery Barn and West Elm for furniture and gifts
  • Williams-Sonoma for high-quality kitchen finds worth the trip
  • Barnes and Noble for an afternoon browsing shelves

Grab a coffee, park once, and work your way through the list at your own pace. You’ll leave with a full bag and a good excuse to come back next season.

Take A Break For A Meal Or Sweet Treat

Shopping works up an appetite, and we always tell guests to save room. Head to Firebirds for wood-fired steaks and fresh seafood along Main Street.

Craving something different? Co brings modern Southeast Asian flavors like pho, sushi, and dumplings, and it’s quickly become one of our own favorite Southpoint stops. Gluten-free and vegan options mean everyone at the table finds a dish they’ll love.

Maggiano’s Little Italy will fill you up with generous portions of Southern Italian food. And if you ask us, no visit is complete without a slice from The Cheesecake Factory. Come hungry, because we always end up ordering dessert to go.

If you want more of our favorite spots around town, our Durham lunch recommendations are a good place to start.

Catch A Movie Or Enjoy Seasonal Events

Southpoint Cinemas rounds out your day with a full IMAX theater and the latest new releases. It sits right along Main Street, so it’s an easy stop after dinner or between rounds of shopping. Comfortable seating and a full concession stand make it easy to settle in for the evening.

Southpoint also brings in seasonal touches throughout the year, from holiday displays to pop-up markets and family-friendly activities. What’s happening changes by season, so it’s worth checking the events page before your visit.

Catch a movie, browse a pop-up market, or just enjoy the extra buzz. Either way, come back to your cozy room and call it a night.

Pair Your Visit With Other Durham Attractions

The Streets at Southpoint make a great anchor for a full day in Durham, especially when you build a few more stops around it. Here are a few of our favorite Durham attractions to pair with your visit.

Sarah P. Duke Gardens

Trade the mall’s energy for something quieter at Duke Gardens. Wander the trails, sit by the pond, or catch the seasonal blooms at their peak. It’s an easy stop before or after a Southpoint shopping trip.

Durham Bulls Athletic Park

Catch a game downtown and soak up some classic minor league energy. The stadium sits close to Brightleaf Square, so you can turn one outing into two. It’s a favorite for guests visiting between innings and errands.

American Tobacco Campus

Old tobacco warehouses now hold shops, restaurants, and green space right in the heart of downtown. It’s worth a walk-through even if you’re not stopping to eat. History buffs especially enjoy seeing the original architecture up close.

Museum of Life and Science

Families often add this museum to their Durham itinerary, especially for the Magic Wings Butterfly House. Kids and adults alike love wandering among live butterflies. It pairs naturally with a morning at Southpoint before an afternoon of exploring.

Stay Close To The Streets At Southpoint

A day at The Streets at Southpoint is even better when you don’t have far to go afterward. We’re only about 16 minutes away, so you can shop, eat, and catch a movie, then unwind on our porch before bed. No traffic, no long drive back, just a short trip to a room that’s already waiting for you.

You might be in town for a weekend getaway, or squeezing in a shopping trip between Duke visits. Either way, we’d love to host you back at the Magnolia Suite, the Tiger Room, or wherever you settle in for the night.

Reserve your stay at Morehead Manor and make Southpoint part of a Durham weekend worth remembering.
